Before I left for my freshman year of college, I worked as a customer service desk cashier. While I received only a few weeks of training, I was deemed the best fit for the customer service desk with my approachable and friendly personality. Even though this is not directly related to industrial engineering, I find it just as important to understand customer service and be able to relate to the customers and their needs. Industrial engineers are meant to optimize products and processes. Customer service is often the first step to realizing how the product can be optimized for the target market. I learned so much through my work experience as a customer service cashier as I saw the importance of communication skills and organization. I understand how an entry level position can relate to a more advanced cognitive level position as an industrial engineer.
