At an early age, I got involved with the community because I wanted give back. While I am terrified of needles, I still found a way to volunteer with the American Red Cross. As the blood drive coordinator, I organized four-yearly blood drives at my local shopping mall. Prior to each blood drive, I telemarketed to over 100 potential donors to increase our registrations for the event that quarter. Even though I was often turned down I did not give up and would politely call the next donor to ask for a blood donation. When the day of the blood drive arrived, I was in charge of signing in and registering all of the donors and showing them the process to move through the preparation stations. I realized how important it was to keep the process moving smoothly. There were three different prep areas to let the nurses know more details about the patient and if they were ready and completed the paperwork. As an industrial engineer, I was fascinated with the organization and optimization of the process by the American Red Cross.
