During the summer of 2019, I was a marketing intern with a focus on operational improvements for a mortgage company in Franklin, TN. While I was helping with the marketing directives, I was also gathering data on how the flow of day to day work could be improved for this branch of the company. I focused on lowering the amount of repetitive work done by individuals to lessen the load per day. The marketing department was constantly developing new and innovative ways to gain customers and clients. It was important to realize that the client was not always the customer. As a mortgage company, the marketing products needed to be geared towards real estate agents rather than direct customers and home buyers. I learned the significance of target markets as well as the importance of organizing data on the target markets to optimize the system.
